About Thrive

Thrive Child and Youth Trauma Services, now operating under Lynwood Charlton Centre, was established in 1976 as a direct response to the needs of our community. We are part of an integrated network of children and youth mental health services in Hamilton.

Thrive became incorporated in 1999 (as the Community Child Abuse Council) and is currently a federally registered, charitable, community-based organization, governed by a diverse voluntary Board of Directors.

We are very grateful for the funding received through a combination of government funds, foundations, grants, private donors, and fundraising activities.

Our services are aimed at reducing the incidence and impact of child maltreatment and promoting the safe and healthy development of children.  We do this by providing assessment and trauma treatment services, as well as prevention and educational programs, for young people who have been sexually abused, are involved in intrafamilial sexual abuse (children and youth within the same family), or those who have concerning sexualized behaviours.

In addition, we also provide specialized services to address the unique needs of refugee and immigrant young people and their families experiencing trauma symptoms or significant acculturation stress, as well as Black and Indigenous young people and their families.

Our Mission

A community-wide response to childhood trauma that combines excellence in treatment, state-of-the-art education, and community-oriented prevention initiatives aimed at reducing the incidence and impact of child maltreatment and promoting the safe and healthy development of children.

Our Vision

We believe thriving children create thriving communities.
